Introduction
The Key of Liberty curriculum is a project that will lead the students to an understanding and appreciation for the founders of our country and constitution. We start with the pilgrims before 1620 and cruise through the history leading up to the American Revolution. We spend more time in-depth studying the events of the revolution so that we can see the miracles and the compromises that led to the creation of our Constitution. Then we study our Constitution, Bill of Rights, and the amendments that give us our current government today. This includes an understanding of government at all levels from city to county to state to federal. This seems like hefty material for grades 6-8 BUT the material is taught through a study of our founding documents, age-appropriate literature, and simulations and reenactments. I also have some favorite kid-friendly websites that bring history to life.
Along with the study of history, the students will acquire the following skills: memorization, note-taking, reading for information, drawing conclusions, and more.
